Strawberry Festival

Redberry Farm is probably one of George’s best known and most well-loved destinations as it offers excellent family entertainment all year round.

Situated on Geelhoutboom Road near the George Airport, Redberry Farm is easy to find and will keep the entire family busy for hours. To celebrate the arrival of strawberry season and the October school holidays the Strawberry Festival, presented by Ola, will take place on the 1st and 2nd of October and promises to be bigger and better than ever.

Regular visitors to Redberry Farm will be familiar with their magnificent playground, the bubble ball and paddle boats on the dam, the pony rides, the maze, miniature train rides and strawberry picking. While all of these will be part of the festival, the weekend also has a jam packed programme to entertain both adults and children.

Centre stage at the festival will be the Strawberry Emporium. The strawberry eating competition promises to be a lot of fun for both participants and spectators. Strawberry treats and drinks galore will be available from the Berry Bar, while punnets of strawberries and other gourmet strawberry treats will be on sale to eat or take home. For those who are daring enough to take strawberries to the next level, a wine or craft beer and berry pairing will be tantalising your taste buds.

The festival will also be an ideal opportunity to enjoy the warmer weather of spring and participate in the 5km fun run, the 9km trial run or the Moore Stephens GRG Berry MTB Relay, a 5km countryside loop track through the strawberry fields.  There will even be a Moore Stephens GRG Toddler Dash for the 2 to 6 year old kids. CrossFit George will be hosting the ‘Fittest in the Garden Route’ competition for inter-box challenges.

With an outside broadcast by Algoa FM, performances by ‘The Johny Ray Duo’, Adin Walls, Skye Clarke, Grant Stockigt, as well as the much anticipated performance by Jesse Clegg at 12:00 on Sunday, the festival will be a feast for all the senses. The outdoor country market will take place from 9am to 5pm on Saturday and from 9am to 4pm pm on Sunday. Eat and shop at the wide variety of stalls offering delicious cuisine and crafted items, while enjoying the live dance and short performances lined up at the outside stage.

Johann Prinsloo, the MC for the weekend, is a contemporary opera singer and will perform impromptu renditions throughout the weekend while Scarlett the Strawberry will be roaming the festival grounds during the weekend, offering a perfect photo opportunity to young and old.
