KKNK Festival 2018

One of the most highly anticipated annual events of the Garden Route cultural calendar is nearing for 2018! The collaborative KKNK 7 day festival takes place in the sunny town of Oudtshoorn, also known as the Ostrich Capital of the world (home to the largest population of ostriches as well as a number of amazing outdoor activities for all ages). Oudtshoorn is surrounded by rich natural beauty from the Swartberg and Outeniqua mountains ranges to a diverse range of fauna and flora.

The KKNK / Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees (which is Afrikaans for Little Karoo National Arts Festival) first took place in 1994 and has become increasingly popular with creative minds and those interested in the arts, while also attracting those simply looking to have fun with friends. With an endless array of music acts lined up as well as dance performances, plays, productions and comedy shows, we can all look forward to a vibrant atmosphere throughout the week. Let’s not forget about the myriad of alluring art exhibitions for everyone to appreciate, with wonderful exhibitions popping up throughout Oudtshoorn. The KKNK is an inspired Afrikaans festival enjoyed every year by young and old, Afrikaans and non-Afrikaans speakers alike, introducing new local talents and welcoming back old favourites.

PLEASE NOTE: Festival details can changePlease check with the organizers to confirm that specific shows/exhibitions and performances are still taking place before making your travel arrangements. You can also visit the KKNK Festival’s official website for more information, or for contact details.

Debut comedy shows like Babbelagtig and Swerfgoed will have everyone in stitches at the KKNK Festival for 2018, while productions such as The Mermaid-Complex (directed by Wessel Pretorius) and Weerkats (following 5 women through reflective periods of their lives) are powerful and will leave you deep in thought. Mike and Mavis is a romantic comedy production that will pull at your heartstrings and have you on the edge of your seat. The much anticipated comedy production Manne is all about a group of male friends on a treacherous journey with many ups and downs – a show for all to enjoy.

Food, Wine and All Things Fine

For all the foodies out there, the KKNK Festival has something exciting planned for your taste buds. There will be food stalls in place throughout the festival and of course, no Garden Route festivity is complete without the provision of fabulous local wines. The KKNK will host an exciting Bossafari Wine and Tapas tour, bringing visitors to the Buffelsdrift Game Lodge for a real adventure and wildlife experience. The KKNK will also be hosting an awesome cooking demonstration by Hermon Lensing (learn many 30 minute kitchen tricks and short and sweet recipes) not to mention that there will be many mouth-watering food stalls serving up various cuisines and treats throughout the festival.
