Blissed Out @ Leisure Isle Lodge

My other half and I recently spent a night in absolute luxury & tranquility at the one and only Leisure Isle Boutique Lodge in Knysna. Needless to say, we fell head over heels…

From the awesome location to the super friendly welcome by Cher (GM) and all her staff, the sophisticated yet laid back elegance of the lodge itself makes for an ideal romantic getaway. It’s also great for business travellers seeking a haven at which to unwind.

Getting there: A scenic 45 minutes drive from George, this retreat is perfectly positioned on the shore of Bollard Bay, Leisure Isle. A pit-stop at Timberlake en-route is a must, for a luncheon or to merely browse around the shops. We devoured a delicious meal at their award-winning Zucchini Restaurant and highly recommend the smoked trout, also the biltong & feta giant spring roll with side salad comprising fresh ingredients picked from their organic garden on-site. You can’t leave without paying a visit to the ‘residents’ of the Enchanted Fairy Garden, a must for both the young & old-er folk (it’s ok to admit that we’re all young at heart!). http://timberlakeorganic.co.za/

Fuelled up and ready to be blissed out…

With butterflies of excitement, we arrived at our final destination. After parking the car at the back of the lodge (ample off-street parking bays allocated), we were shown to our room… but not just any room. As per their philosophy of service par excellence, a surprise upgrade to the Penthouse Suite took our breath away. Triple bonus points there, Cher J Thanks!!!!

Our sweet Suite was absolutely perfect. Sprawling the upper level, it includes a spacious dining & lounge area with fireplace, an outdoor balcony with seating and views over the Lagoon towards Knysna Heads, a magnificent bedroom with gigantic bed (in which one can easily get lost) plus a spectacular en-suite bathroom with freestanding bath and walk-in shower. We were in our element!

Accommodation: LIL offers 11 spacious, individually decorated Suites/Rooms with Lagoon views or opening out onto the garden and swimming pool area. Each is equipped with a satellite television, mini bar, beverage facilities, hairdryer, heated towel rail, under floor heating and ceiling fan. Fine linen, huge beds and white towels add to the ambience of an intimate stay in the lap of luxury.

After settling in, we decided to make use of their bicycles to explore the island & our new surroundings. What fun, even in the (near) dark!

About Leisure Isle: This idyllic, postcard-perfect 4km periphery island is set in the midst of the vast Knysna Lagoon, a mere 10 minute drive to the centre of town. Here, life is slowed down with daily scenes of holiday makers soaking up the sun on the golden beaches or cooling down in the crystal-clear waters. As the day draws to a close, couples enjoy sunset strolls along the shoreline, families walk their dogs and kids cycle by freely on the winding, narrow roads. One feels as if a million miles away from the rest of civilization.

Returning in the nick of time, we opened a bottle of bubbly and savored the sight of the sun setting over the Knysna Lagoon from the privacy of our balcony. Welcome to our own little piece of paradise.

Time to defrost and make good use of that massive bathtub! I lit some candles and called for time-out. #itgottabedone

Meanwhile, Tersius got the fire going so from one cozy corner to the other, our Suite was all snug. After a few rounds of the 30 Seconds board game, some TV and lots of laughs, it was lights out in every sense of the word. And oh, did we sleep well?! That bed was KING (for real: a King size, extra length bed). Seriously, don’t know when last I slept that well.

BONUS: When housekeeping came to do the turndown earlier that night, they ‘secretly’ placed hot water bottles on both sides of the bed. So when we crawled under the sheets we were literally given ‘a warm welcome’. Little touches like these make for that extra-special stay. Double thumbs up, LIL Team!

The following morning, as we surfaced from our deep slumber, we were welcomed by the soothing sounds of exotic birds tweeting and the steady roll of the waves gently lapping at the shore nearby. Another bliss-filled day in paradise…

Breakfast was served in the communal dining room. During the warmer seasons, tables are prepared on the outside deck overlooking the Bay and Lagoon. Either way, it’s breakfast with a view. A delectable feast of everything from croissants to fruit salads, with a selection of warm cooked meals on order, is beautifully presented.

NOTE: This dining & deck area also serves as an elegant and intimate fine-dining restaurant, offering both lunches and dinners. It is recommended to pre-book a table, especially during season, as Daniela’s is very popular among both local residents and holiday-makers.

Re-energized and re-vitalized, we put on our costumes, grabbed a kayak (compliments of the lodge) and headed across the road to the beach. The sun was shining, the Lagoon balmy and the time just perfect to take to the water. Tons of fun was had, including an almost toppling over experience right in the middle of this vast (and deep!) expanse. If time allows, one can actually venture all the way to the Knysna Waterfront, however it is advisable to steer clear of the Heads as to avoid the strong currents and rough waters heading out to sea. As for us, we paddled straight across to the Featherbed Nature Reserve and enjoyed a stop-over on a beach, watching the world go by. What a view!!!

As it turns out, LIL provides all their guests with this complimentary service as an added ‘little something’. They sure do love the element of surprise, and we sure do appreciate it.

I have stayed at many places throughout the years and can with certainty say that Leisure Isle Lodge has perfected all the elements of what a boutique lodge should represent. By always going the extra mile, it’s easy to see why most of their guests are repeat & referrals.

HelloGardenRoute.co.za  will confidently recommend this exclusive establishment to our valued travellers. Thank-you Leisure Isle Lodge!
